How Can We Take Advantage Of Used Tea Bags?

People who regularly drink tea or infusions are wasting something that can be very useful for multiple uses: tea bags that have already been used.

Apparently, they are nothing more than the dried remains of a plant that no longer has properties. However, in this article, we explain some of the surprising uses they can have:

  • Fertilizer for plants
  • Treatment for bags under the eyes
  • As a remedy to remove odors from the fridge and cupboards
  • Remedy against mosquitoes, etc.

Ecological awareness

More and more people are interested in getting the most out of everything they use. Making the most of resources and wasting as little as possible is one way to do it. In these cases, we discovered that taking an infusion daily is not only a very healthy habit, but it teaches us how we can find a practical solution for almost everything.

Tea bags as compost for plants

Many people who have a garden or orchard have a compost bin or compost bin. It is a container in which the organic remains of the kitchen and the garden are poured every day. Thus, after a few weeks, the waste becomes compost for the plants. Without a doubt, it is a solution that allows us to put them to use while having a more fertile ground.

Following this same idea, the content of the tea bags allows us to fertilize, on a small scale, the house plants . We can wait to have a few, or we can do it every time we have one. All you have to do is add the tea leftovers to the potting soil and mix it up a bit.

If the bags are made of organic material and do not have a metal staple, they can be directly buried. Later, we must cover them with more soil on top.

Anti-inflammatory treatment

Most teas have beneficial properties, not only for our internal health, but also for our skin. The most common, black tea or green tea, have anti-inflammatory properties that will allow us to calm, for example, bags under the eyes, dark circles, swollen eyelids or insect bites.

Tea bags have an anti-inflammatory effect

The sachets will be even more effective if they are cold, because the cold also deflates.
For this reason, we recommend that you always keep some used sachets in the freezer. So when you need them, you can take one and apply it directly for a few minutes.

Absorb odors

This is possibly one of the most unknown uses. Used and dried tea bags have a similar function to baking soda: they absorb bad odors. For this reason, they  are ideal to keep in the fridge or in closets.

One sachet is a small amount to eliminate odors from such large spaces. For this reason, we recommend that you gather several of them and place them in a box with holes. Thus, it will also be more elegant.

With this same objective we can also use them to clean the carpets or the beds of our pets. We will only have to sprinkle the remains of the bags on top, let it act for a few minutes and vacuum. In this way we will eliminate dust and bad odors at the same time.

Incense against mosquitoes

Incense and aroma lovers should know that tea or infusion leaves can also be used in an incense burner to clean the environment and repel mosquitoes, especially if the content is black tea, lemon, lavender, rosemary. or eucalyptus.

Reuse the same bags

If we are trying to save as much as possible, we must also know that we can re-infuse ourselves with the same bag, especially if they have a lot of flavor.

It is possible that the second time we can use two sachets used for a single infusion. By doing so, we will achieve a flavor similar to that of a new bag.

We can also boil a few used sachets to prepare a foot bath, or add it to the bath water. The properties we have discussed above, such as anti-inflammatory and odor eliminators, will also work in this case.
